What is a domain name?
A domain name is the essence of your company's online identity. It is the address your customers use
to find information about your products and services on the web. Domain names allow Internet users to
type in a name, such as yourdomain.com, to identify a numeric Internet Protocol (IP) address such as
207.15.12.173. The purpose of domain names is to allow users connected to the Internet the ability to
find web sites without having to memorize the long, numerical (IP) addresses that actually locate the
computers or servers on the Internet.

What does it mean to "register" a domain name?
There is a central registry of all domain names on the Internet. For your domain name to become a
part of the registry, your domain name needs to be added to that registry. "Registering" a domain
name means you are associated with that domain name for the period of the registration. "Registering"
a name means you own it, and no one else can register that exact same name!

Yes. If you check the availability of a domain name and it is already registered, click on the box:
"Show Registrant Information". This will display the contact information associated with a registered
domain name.

I've got my domain name, now what?
There are many things you can do with your new domain. Some people want to build a website for their
corporate or personal use. If that is the case, you must contact a web design/hosting company,
we do not do web hosting. Once they have a website ready for you, we can have your
new domain hosted by their servers. Contact your web host, and get their Domain Name Server Info
(DNS Info). You can have the new DNS info put into your domain by clicking on the "Manage Your Domain"
link. The domain will then transfer to your new web host in 24-48 hours. Others want to do email
addresses. Again, get the DNS info of your ISP. You can have them set up mailboxes to route from
your domain being hosted on their web servers. Some just want to resell their domain name. In that
case, you may certainly sell your new domain to whomever you like. You may transfer your domain to a
new buyer by using our "Transfer of Ownership" form in the "Manage Your Domain" section.

I own a new domain, but when I type it into my browser, nothing comes up.
Again, a domain name is not a website, just a web address for a website. If you want your new domain
to be a web address for a website for your corporate or personal use, you must contact a web

a new domain for it, be aware that some hosting companies do not accept a domain being hosted on
their host servers (members.abigisp.com/your-abigisp-site~template1765, for example) Also, it may
take a few days for the routing to propagate to your new host on an acceptable server.

What does it mean to transfer registrars?
If you already own a domain, you registered it using a domain name registrar. By using our Transfer
Registrar tool, you are simply transferring your domain from the registrar you originally registered
to our registrar. (Please note, there is a 60-day transfer hold - which means you have to wait two
months from the initial registration before you can transfer your
domain.)

due, you can save yourself some money by taking advantage of Dotway.com's extremely low transfer
prices. In addition, once the transfer is complete, you will be able to easily manage your domain by
using our secure online manager.

How much does it cost?
You can transfer your domain from your previous domain registrar to us for just $9.90.
This will add one year to the original registration term. For example, if your domain is due to
expire in 2 months, you can transfer it to us for $9.90, and it will then expire in 1
year and 2 months.

Will transferring change my information?
No. All existing information in your domain record will be preserved. Once the transfer has been
completed, you can then use the Domain Management System to change any information you choose.

How do I change registrars?
Click on the "Transfer Domains" link on the top of this page. Enter the domain(s) you wish to transfer.
The administrative contact will receive an email to confirm the transfer(s). (Please note: If the admin
contact's email address is outdated, they will not be able to receive the email, and there can be no
confirmation, and thus, no transfer. You must update your admin contact's email address with your
prior registrar first.)
